Finally, Exams are almost over and then I have two weeks left of study leave to myself.
I just wanted to post some tips about exams to help you cope so - please! Listen to my top tips on how to survive through A Level Exams (Or any exams even)
TIP No. 1: REVISE THOROUGHLY
All you probably here from teachers is you have to revise to SUCCEED. And in GCSE I didn't revise one tiny little bit (Sorry to my teachers out there)! But A level is a massive jump from GCSE - put it this way in my mock exams I didn't revise and got 'C' & 'D' in History and English Language Literature. However I did revise for Psychology and received a 'B' proving that revision actually makes a difference.
TIP No. 2: TAKE WELL DESERVED BREAKS
All last week I was revising, revising and revising - it came to yesterday and due to my Psychology Part 2 exam today I wanted to revise. However, when I eventually sat down to revise, I was so tired that I couldn't bring myself to revise. But no, that didn't mean I gave up and just didn't revise - I went shopping with my nan: bought some new shows, earphones and 2 new belly bars and also had a nice peri peri chicken wrap from McDonalds (YUM). I returned home, sat down and was ready to revise - showing that sometimes you can over revise so take a break.
Tip No. 3: DON'T PANIC
This is a lot coming from me, I am the world's biggest 'panicker' - all my teachers say when I send them an email, that it's always written like I'm in a panic. The best way not to panic is to breathe - and do not take revision notes to the exam room while your waiting - the reason for this is all your previous revision fades away. Think of it like, when you look and focus on something - it's surroundings blur. It's the same with revision notes, you're looking through them focusing on the things you've written but then forgetting the things you've already revised so when you go in the exam all you can remember is just a few of the notes you've made. My advice is when you finally decide to go to the exam, put all your things away and DO NOT listen to anybody around you; they will actually redirect your train of thought when they are talking about the exam.
TIP No. 4: DON'T FRET OVER EXAM WHEN IT'S FINISHED
It is often tempting after an exam to meet up with your friends and talk about the paper and the answers you all wrote. This is a bad idea! It is most likely that you and your friends have different writing styles which means you all could have written different answers but yet they all could be correct. It is natural for our minds to think we are incorrect when our friends have different answers to us which may not be the case. It is also tempting to look over your notes to see if you have gotten an answer correct in the paper - once again bad idea! Although the feeling is unbelievably amazing when you know you've gotten something right but say if you got it incorrect - your going to be quite upset about it aren't you? Best thing to do is once you've finished the exam, focus on the next one rather than dwelling on the last one!
Once taking things into consideration, exams are a lot less stressful and you feel much better when waiting for the results. You can only do your best and that's all that is expected of you - don't be focusing on making your parents, friends or teachers proud: MAKE YOURSELF PROUD.
